As previously noted he may also know it's true value and have someone to pass it on to. I would have to guess he'd want at least £4000 for it and possibly more if he knows what people are willing to pay for original old Fords. Out of curiosity what was your offer going to be around ? Does he know you are putting pictures of his car outside his house on the net ? Probably not the best idea even with the number blotted out.

It needs a little work and no i would not take the mick these things are worth easily 10 grand in mint condition its not quite mint but a months solid work it would be. If i think the chap is who i think it is then i would not even try to make him an offer as he really is not all there and like people said if he's had it from new the centiment value for him would be huge. I would let him name the price if he did even want to sell it.

I think it is wrong to take pictures outside his house and put them up on a public forum, there are a lot of possibly unscrupulous people who might recognise the place and the value of the vehicle and know how easy they are to open and start (mine would unlock with a pen knife or screwdriver and start with the same) Also if the metadata is still included in the picture it is possible to find the location and time it was taken.

Finally spoke to the owners and it is being sold apparently for £2000 i have told them how desirable and they are worth quite a bit but think they just want rid as the family is suffering due to ill health.

we (my parents) had a four door 1.3 mk1 from new - 1972, the year I was born. I learnt to drive in it on the farm, then just before I was old enough to drive it legally, my dad decided to scrap it - had less than 80,000 miles on it, and engine was perfect. Just no body left to weld
