ford type 9 short shift

My "new" to me minor has a ford type 9, to get reverse I have to push the lever into the front seat padding/passenger knee,
a solution to my mind is a short shift kit, spacer 3 bolts short stick??? and two cut tube bits,
bought one off ebay but instructions are sparse,
anyone done one? or got a link to more details?

I made a 5” extension for the type 9 in my kit car that incorporated the standard gear lever modified by lifting the pivot point about 8mm above its standard position, it uses a spacer below the pivot to stop the pivot moving down in use and a spacer below the actual gear lever retaining plate. The gear lever was shortened and re threaded for the gear knob . The reverse light and the reverse top all work as they should . Total cost was £0.92 for the plastic saddle and a few bits from my scrap bin. Been in use now for over 20 years. Just seen the post from Anguz, that was the one that I followed the instructions to make mine
