Ford Escort Mk1

I was at the auctioneers here in Stoke on Trent yesterday and parked up ready for the next general auction is a 1972 Mk1 Escort. It has been seized by whoever and is up for auction. The owner was aways through a rebuild from first glance and it does not look too bad. The prices of these machines is ridiculous now so this might be the bargain of the year!!
The auction house is Butters John bee in Hanley. They have upgraded their website and now you can only view the catalogue on line if you are on their mailing list! It should be auctioned on Thursday 31 with viewing the day before. The last auction they had had started using i-bidder so it was a live online job too. I will keep you informed when and if it happens. The poor sod might find the funds to save it!

the MK V Escort will be collectors soon so I'm told due to them being the last Escort made.
you hardly see any of them around here now.
I'm not into all this old bangers stuff, cost to much money inc to restore.
I'd rather buy a newer car.

Popped back down today to take a few photo's including the chassis number. The plate is held on with screws. I thought that these were rivetted! There is another plate on the slam panel with the chassis number and the word TAWNY on it. Perhaps that was the original colour!

4 door painted as RS??? could be wrong, but I don't think there was ever a factory 4 Door RS.. Eitherway, the top money goes to the sporty Escorts, RS2000,1800, Mexicos etc all 2 doors etc, this is neither sporty, nor 2 door.. doubt it'll go for big cash

looks like 4 door minus rear door handles to look like 2 door

think chassis no should be at the side of drivers seat stamped into the floor as well as under bonnet

it's obviously be rebuilt at some stage and repainted to look like an RS.

it looks to be missing its carb

6 of them within about 5 miles of me, although 2 guys own 2 each. All of them get driven though

I think you're probably right there. I had a lovely Cortina MK3 200 GXL that was Ford Tawny. Really miss the old thing.

I think Tawny relates to the fact if you squint the reg is OWL.
BTW my daughter is known as Tawny - her real name is Siobhan. Came about from when she was a baby and wife called her Tawny Siobhan - she has Tawny coloured hair !

Just got back from the auction. At 10.30 the auctioneer announced that they had been advised by the clients lawyers to remove the car from the auction. Apparently there had been enquiries from around the world about it and Chris Evans name was mentioned! Looking underneath the car yesterday I found that all the mechanicals had been either replaced or refurbished to a good standard and the panels all looked mint and were stonechipped to a high standard. Obviously the owner is fighting the bailiffs having put so much work into it. We will have to wait and see if it is in next months auction!
