i have 2 hgvs that dont move often. they stay respectably clean, they just turn green.

im sure this is not a problem unique to me, but im getting fed up of constantly scrubbing the green off, for it to be green again in a month.

what do you guys use to clean off and prohibit further growth?

Algaecide is what I spray on horse boxes.
Spray it on a dry box and it keeps the green away for about 6 months. Maybe a year on the fibreglass parts.

No idea what brand I use, I have a guy that fills my bottles up from a big drum.
Can probably sort you some out if you can't find any locally..

i will look around. sounds ideal. dropping the cleaning to twice a year (or once before the season) would be amazing!


as you can see, not a small task! they scrub up nice though.

Seriously, the SouthWest's warmer, wetter climate, plus proximity to the sea and other wet things with loads of nutrients and green stuff in it to seed the algae on stationary objects makes keeping green stuff away from things you don't want green a thankless task.

The stuff I use is for walls/fascias on commercial buildings. I'd guess most of the active ingredients are the same but maybe they add something to make it cling to vertical surfaces?

For a high sided lorry I feed it into the additive tube on the pressure washer so I can use the long lance for reach, I think that runs at about 20:1 on low ratio?
Spray it on (low pressure), leave it 15mins, high pressure wash off.

Otherwise I use a hand-pump type pressure sprayer, probably mixed a bit stronger, 10:1 and 15mins and it will come off with a hose.

After-treatment, max ratio on the pressure washer (low pressure) maybe 10:1
If it's a grp box that's just had a polish hand sprayer with distilled water at about 10:1.

If the box is not dry or the weather is bad I'll spray it on neat for after treatment but that can streak on a polished surface. Old or stipple board won't really show any streaking from it though.

will have a mull over. might try a small container of the cheaper stuff and see if it works, if not ill try the industrial stuff.

I'd guess my hand sprayer holds about 2l?
4 of those, 5 at most to do a lorry the size in the photo

So even at 10:1 £19 will make you 50l so will cost you under £4 to do one...
Even both twice a year is only about £15,
Probably save that in electric & water trying to pressure wash the green off..
