Footprint tinsnips

Picked up these footprint tinsnips today in an old tool shop near me, 10 euros each, if they are any good they have a smaller snips and i might buy them too, they only want a tenner each for them too. Says made in Sheffield, but i wonder ?

I would certainly think so matt, but are they still sheffield made or are they made in china and painted in sheffield to conform to the rules of what makes something "made in england" ?

buy them second hand take apart and rub them up on a disk sander and put back together and there good as new the real mcoy

It is indeed. I didn't realise Footprint were still going, to be honest, until this thread came up. I'd assumed they'd have gone the way of most of the others. Good to know there's still a top class brand being produced in Sheffield.

Reminds me of my dads pair from years ago...

..he put some garden hose on handles to keep them open, made them easier to use much like this quick mock up:

They must have been bought over by another larger company because about 5 or 6 years ago I tried to order some footprint adjustable wrenches from my local dealer and was told he couldn't get any as footprint had went into administration.

To get a "Made in Sheffield" licence, which Footprint has, you have to prove that a product has undergone a "substantial change" in Sheffield. Putting imports into packaging or painting them is not recognised as substantial.
