Foot powered colchester lathe(perhaps?)

Another item that turned up at the scrappys today that was to be thrown away
Makes my blood boil sometimes but there ya go
So,what have we here,looks to me like a small wood lathe and yes the foot pedal came with it



This is the foot pedal that came with it,one can only presume they're both connected no belt though

tread has a crack in it but still solid

Its so well balanced that you only have to touch it and its smoothly working away
I've been ask how old it could be,i dont have a clue so perhaps some of you guys might

Yes it has been saved, not by me though,told them not to chuck it

Just amazing what gets chucked, The foot treadle looks like it has some weight to it maybe to work as a fly wheel to keep ir smooth and powered, My dad was a cobbler and we had big singer sewing machines with similar treadles, When the machines were converted to motors the treadles were bought by a guy and shipped to india so probably still going strong.

I think I might actually have one of those kicking about in a shed somewhere. Be very interested in the treadle if they don't want that part.

Turns out I already have the exact same lathe which I bought for the straight edge. Seems a shame to destroy the whole thing just for that though.

Now trying to see if I can get my hands on that wheel...
