Foot pedal for blasting pot

I been thinking about getting a foot pedal for my blasting set up.
But the pedal´s that i found on ebay is mostly 1/4" in the input/output diameter.
On blast pot the all the pipe is 1/2"

Would that be a problem?

And does foot pedal even work on 100l half empty blast pot. I mean every time it needs pressurize and depressurize, instead of cutting of the air flow on front of the nozzle. And keeping the pressure inside the pot?

If you're putting it in the air supply to the pot it will gradually run down and gradually build up again, it won't stop & start instantaneously.

You should be OK reducing to 1/4" just for the pedal, it really depends on the nozzle size.

A washing machine valve takes 10mm ID tube, it could be operated electrically or mechanically with a magnet.

My nozzle is 5mm, and i blast with 58psi

its not worth putting a pedal on a pot even if the bore is large enough it will take half a minute to fill the pot and another half minute to empty after u let go there ok on suction guns in cabinets and thats about it

I had a valve just before the nozzle : It got eaten up in no time

i tried bending the hose shut every time : it blew a hole in the hose

If i put a valve on the air inlet to the pot it takes ages depressurize !

On the big Hodge Clemco pots, the 'dead mans handle' which has the same function you want with the foot pedal, acts as a pilot source to the valve that actually does the work. It moves a piston that has a valve on each end. One de-pressurised the pot, the other cuts off the air supply to the pot.

i tried bending the hose shut every time : it blew a hole in the hose

If i put a valve on the air inlet to the pot it takes ages depressurize !

just use without and wait.there isnt a quick way of doing it even the large mobile pots need to de presurise with a deadmans valve

I have a couple of hand operated valves, one cuts the air supply and the other de-pressurises the pot. They're close together and I work close to the pot anyway so it works fine for me. I work in a blast room so the 'wasted' grit is contained.

What tube do you use for the actual blasting - is it large diameter or smaller ??

The tube I use is about 10mm diameter and I use a plastic ratchet clip which sits around the tube to 'crush' it closed when required.

I use a 1/2" (13mm) air tube. I have a real Semperit/clemco hose, meant for blasting. but i find it to stiff and unhandy for the cabinet

What about substituting the hose from the blastpot for a polyurethane hose 10mm - use a reducer etc and then you can use the ratchet clips, and it will be much more flexible to use.
