I have a Galaxy S8 with a USB C socket. Usually I charge it from a wireless pad. On the occasions I use the standard power lead I've not been happy with the connection, it never seemed to locate properly and I'd intermittently get slow charging messages.

Having nothing better to do I thought I'd try to find out why?
It didn't take much effort to discover the root of the problem, just a bright light and a jeweller's loupe.

You've guessed it - FLUFF.
Quite a considerable amount that meant that the plug was held out by around a millimetre.
Remedy, shave a toothpick so that it fitted comfortably into the socket without straining the connector strip and remove said detritus.

And to give it some scale

That little lot has managed to build up in under a year (in fact probably less than 6 months since this has been a noticeable problem for some time). I can't say it has ever been an apparent with USB B sockets. Maybe I'm getting fluffier in my old age?
Still, all working fine now and the connector snaps home nicely.

Never heard it used in that context, but it's certainly fitting.

I use a bit of mig wire when Iv turned it off that is

My speaker is knackered from all the grinding dust and it occasionally gets stuck on headphone mode with the debris in there

I frequently have to clear the usb c port out in my phone, when the cable stops clicking into place I know it's time for a clear out.

It depends what you do, Mrs grim had the exact same phone and never has a problem.

I thought of using a jeweller's screwdriver but, not knowing whether or not it is live all the time, I went for the safe option. Dead tree.

But the fluff that amasses in one's belly button smells way more unpleasant than that in any USB port!

Which bit is the magnet? I can just imagine pulling my phone out and having one of those swarf trees stuck to it.

I had the same with my (recently deceased) iPhone 6 socket. I thought it was just the cheap cables I bought but turned out it was just full of fluff, a quick pick with a needle had it as good as new (until it packed up about 3 weeks later !!)

ive just had a go at mine with some stainless mig wire...not entirely sure how 4 cubic yards of fluff can fit into a micro usb socket...but it can!!!

I had the same issue with the same phone, I went at it when a sharp pair of tweezers and couldn't believe how much was in it!
