Flow meters

There appear to be two ranges with the argon flow meters. The more common seems to be 0-14 lpm and the other is 0-40 lpm

Would the 0-14 be all one needed, or is it worth spending an extra couple of quid for the larger one. ie: Are there times where you will need more than 14 lpm (such as outside or maybe inside in a very drafty shed. Or even in close proximity to a heavy breather?)

ive welded quite a few things outside in a breeze and never felt the need to turn up above 12ish. Definitely not above 14, just put a wind break up or use the stick welder when the mig cant cope

I've not needed more than about 10 lpm, as brokenbiker has said when the breeze gets up, get the arc welding leads out and save your gas...

Generally you would use 0-14 for TIG and 0-40 for MIG as around 15 ltrs/min is the accepted norm in industry but there are no hard and fast rules

In the absence of any need for the higher level I'd opt for the smaller 0-14 as it'll probably be easier to read at the level you'll be wanting.

Just to add, I am still trying to learn to weld and am doing all my work outside as I don't have a workshop
Have always set the regulator to about 8lpm or less, even in a breeze. As a lot of my weld comes out blackened/charred looking should I run it higher ? Didn't even give it a thought till reading the above just now

Yes, a little higher. Don't go over the top though, too much can cause problems (as well as wasting gas) as it can suck in ordinary air - venturi effect. More isn't always better.
If working outdoors get a wind shield of some description in place. Or use a stick!

Cheers I need to look into what's about then
atm am welding on a small patio space, so needs to be reasonably discrete and easy to put away
