In desperation, to shut a noisy cistern up, I fitted a latex glove over the valve and the water flowed out of the index finger. Probably still there.Still lots of old bathrooms on tank feed about. As I remember the type 2 valves are newer and have the top outlet knuckle to prevent back siphonage, I have seen plenty of the old type 1 valves with the tube extended down below the water level to make them quieter. Low pressure bigger hole high pressure smaller hole as stated above.
