Flap discs

I've a few carbide bits that fit a dremel which I use for finer cleaning up on occasion.
Very reluctant to use it much though because the chips it produces are like tiny daggers

I've still got a bit in one finger I was never able to dig out. Hurts like hell if you catch it at the wrong angle.
Every so often I have another dig in case it's worked it's way nearer the surface

Yeah I use ones that come in at under a quid each, not fancy curved edges though. Never had an issue.
I was trying to sort the workshop out again and kept coming across part boxes of them and it was then I noticed some were flat and some angled.

I use the lower grit ones for shaping wood. Tend to clog after not too long, but safer than those "wood carving" discs I feel.

I also kept coming across discarded worn ones .... really need a bin in there

After they clog up on wood I find using them on steel unclogs them.

Do all makes of burrs throw big chips, or are some makes of burrs better?

If you like flap discs you'll love fibre ones..

Seems like 99% of the jobs I see flap discs being used for, a fibre disc would be easier, faster, cheaper and last way longer.
I rarely use flap discs unless its awkward shape.

Depends how coarse the cut of the burr is.

Coarse burrs chuck out big hot chips that burn you and stick in your boots.

Fine burrs produce tiny splinters that work through clothing and stick to everything with static.

You can also get special burrs for fast removal and a fine finish that produce both.

Choose your poison.

not as bad as the toe nail clippings from a hand held metal shear , the one I have for heavier stuff leaves wicked new moon clippings ,,
