Fixing windscreen damage

Hi all,
My project car had a rough life before me (many years ago). The windscreen has some noticeable scratches, filings from a grinder and you can see wiper marks in it.
A new screen is around £800 plus fitting.
Has anybody had success with polishing out significant scratches in laminated windscreens, or is it a waste of time?
I'm willing to give it a go before I try and source another screen.

It would be a waste of time in all honesty.
You can "refine" very small scratches if you have a lot of time to spend on it, but if they are significant you'll be there three lifetimes.

If you can feel the damage with your fingernail, you are wasting your time. Wait until the spring and do a windscreen claim.

Is that car a nova/sterling in your profile pic?
If so I feel your pain, I believe the windscreen's were available as one off's made by pilkintons on the original moulds organized via the nova international club at one point but I've been out of it for years.
A windscreen is the one critical part still missing on my nova, a few years ago I bought one just to get the donor screen, and the person towing it for me loaded it backwards on the trailer with no rear screen and blew the windscreen out, although as he was keeping the donor for payment, I have only his word this happened...
