Fixing mesh fencing to brick/concrete/stone

I posted before about the need to cover 2 big old wells at my Dad's old house in Portugal to stop kids falling down them.

I remembered I have 2 big rolls of chain link fencing that should do the job. How would I go about fixing it around the edges of the well? I suppose the ideal would be a hilti gun but don't know about taking that on the ferry.

Perhaps something that could drilled and then screwed into place?

or rawl plugs + normal screws.

but i'd use this

if a screw with a penny washer pulls out, its no longer holding the mesh in place.
with builder's band, it will still hold on the other fixings.

Is the well square, round or irregular?
I would use decent heavy galv strapping like the stuff used for joist ties and if it's square lace them through the chain-link and fix it down with thread bar fixed into the brick with chemical anchor.
If it's round or irregular use shorter overlapping straps of the same stuff.
Ideally pull the chain-link over and fix to the edge but it does not like being pulled irregular shapes.

A bit OTT but the last thing you want is someone (kid) standing or walking on it and it giving way.

The wells are round. Probably about 12 foot diameter.
I will have to lace the chain link together in the middle as well to make 1 big piece.
There are no rules or regs on this kind of thing but as I am renting the place out I don't want some poor little kid falling in.

for 12ft diameter, i'd be tempted to add a sheet of 150mm x 6mm concrete reinforcing mesh under the chain link.

or some rebar weaved in to chain link over that span
or just board it over
