Fish eyes are normally caused by a contamination on the panel that repels the the paint - often silicone.
That additive contains silicone - I tried it once but it made the fisheyes worse. Wouldn't use it again. Best advise I've had is flat down, clean with brake cleaner, then respray the coat, though if you only have one or two I'd be inclined to try to fill them up with a small brush then polish.
ive never had them appear only on the last coat, did you mix it in a different container i usually find if you get them they are there from the begining.
that said i havnt had any for years
just read your other post sounds like the tank got contaminated before your last coats did you polish it in between or even touch it with something
i wouldnt have left it 20 mins between coats 20 mins is quite a long time 2k starts getting tacky quite quickly.
silicone has got onto your work somehow you need to work out how.
did you leave the spray area inbetween
did you use fast activator ?
Once used, isn't the gun only fit for using the additive afterwards? Because the additive is silicone. Sure I've read of someone/where binning guns once used, in case of mucking up normal jobs in future...
Was there any WD40 or similar sprayed in the vicinity by any chance? Or air tools (exhausting oil mist), anything like that? Hose used for air tools also?
Are these close to your decals...? Ones I used needed 24hrs before clear, to let them dry/glue get itself sorted etc.
have a closer look with a magnifying glass sometimes specs of dust can have a similar apperance to silicone contamination, worth a look
have you sprayed any hammer finish paint with that gun?
that will give you fish eye.
clean every thing out well.
i wash in side of air line from time to time.pour a fair amount of thinners into it,then blow it out till dry, they can pick up oil out of compressor.
Never been used for anything other than 2k, I am meticulous with cleaning my equipment/draining tank & filters etc. Would just like to know for future projectes.
Thanks all for your input.![]()
Many deodorants & hair products contain silicones and similar substances, Their use is usually banned from paint shop staff.
I had an issue when painting a bonnet (celly) where just one fish eye appeared in the final coat. I used Malcom's idea and put a drop of paint in it with a coctail stick as soon as i had finished the coat, then de-nibbed it when dry. I have tried to find it since with (thankfully) no joy! The only thing i noticed while painting was a fly mooching about, possibly it had walked in something in the garage, then on the bonnet.
