First welds with parweld xti160 and 2.5 mm 6013 at 80 amps
Yh im having a bit of a problem with long arc think im getting the hang of it now i have all the safety gear. I just drag the rod across the work it literally touches the metal without sticking my welder has automatic arc force thats why so i can hold a tight arc. I also tried some Lincoln 6011 very hard to use not sure whyIt won't help not being honest, they are not great but they are very typical of first arc welds, probably identical to how mine were.
It takes a fair bit to get into the comfort zone for arc welding, ideally you should....
Be sitting down.
Have a good mask.
Have a good light aimed at the weld area.
Good protective clothing so you don't jump everytime a spark hits you.
Have the arm holding the rod supported across your other arm for stability.
Draw a chalk line to keep your welds straight.
Practice the travel of the rod without any power first to ensure you feel right.
Often the length of the rod proves difficult for new welders, a trick I was shown was cut the rod into half with a junior hacksaw, one half will be ok for use and after removing a bit of flux so will the other.
Not really the way to do it:I just drag the rod across the work it literally touches the metal
I know but with arc force you can without sticking lol its a parweld xti160 it poped a fuse as well not on the welder
