First time gas requirement for semi-professional - Baking my noodle with choices !

So, I've just bought myself a big 235 Portamig and I'm looking to get a 250Amp tig soon too.

I'll be welding a few hours a week so I'll need two bottles. One of Argon/C02 and one of pure argon.

I'm looking for the CHEAPEST long term supply for a few hours of weekly welding.

I don't know whether to get a BOC supply as it's local ??? Seems expensive though.

What's this "adams gas" I keep hearing about ??

What about these free rental companies about ???



It's very baffling... Can anyone shed some light on this for me please ?

I'm in the Merseyside region btw. Wirral specifically.

It's all going to come down to how much you use.

With BOC you will pay a rental no matter how much you use. You will also pay a handling fee and an environmental fee on every refill plus the gas cost. The handling fee is around £16.

With the Adams Gas bottles you pay a refundable deposit.You then just pay for the refills.

9L bottles £55 deposit 137bar fill
20L bottles £80 deposit 200bar fill

refill costs are set by the local stockist.

Probably cheapest option would be to get a couple of rent free bottles and see how you get on. You can then guage how much you are using with a contract.

I've taken out the BOC offer... It was too cheap not to.

And they fill their bottles to over 200 bar. I picked mine up today from 'Boc gas & gear' and they were REALLY helpful. The guy had never heard of the volkszone deal before but it came up fine on my account.

The rental is £35.80 per year.
Refills are £24.52 (+1.92 enviroment charge).

These prices are PLUS VAT @ 20%

There is NO handling fee.
