First question

Hi all, as I said in my introduction I'm new to welding, going to get started today and was wondering how I set the gas flow rate, e.g. how do I know how much is enough, I don't want to be spewing too much gas out and waste it all.

The R-tech welder I have comes with a reg and I have a bottle of hobbyweld hobby 5, don't get me wrong I'm not tight I don't mind using the gas lol, but I just don't want to use it all within an hour if you get me, any advice is very much appreciated. Thanks, Mark.

You will want about 6 to 8 lpm but that depends on distance the shroud is tlnthe work piece.

But it is best to play arojnd and find out what suits you best

I use 10 lpm and peashooter type gauges like this go over the shroud on the welder and give a more accuate reading than the dial gauges on a regulator does.

Hiya, struggling to post pics, it's an R-tech reg that came with the welder. I will start at 6 lpm and work up depending on performance, the flow meter tester looks like a good buy, I will get one I reckon.

Where is best to post pics of my first welds?, when I figure out how to post pics that is.

you would be better starting at ten, if it looks good then gradually turn it down, you will soon see the differance when there is not enough gas,in fact you will hear it as well.also depends if indoors or out doors, outside you need 12 to fifteen unless very well shielded from drafts.

Right, 10 it is, will be indoors for now but will need to be outdoors in a month or so so I wil try to remember that, thanks arthur.

the gauge on left is content in bottle, the one on the right varies giving you your flow as you adjust the knob,with wire tensioner off,so no wire move ment pull trigger the gauge will show flow ,adjust as flowing to say 10. to start with.

I concur, I have one and it's a handy piece of kit and for all the cost.....
