First big project!

Hi guys, lots of good projects here so thought I'd post a few pics of a trailer I made a few weeks back









the sides and headboard of the trailer are made from 2mm mild steel which I folded on my box and pan folder. the side/headboard panels were then seam welded to 50 x 500mm SHS with a 50 x 50mm SHS rear cross beam to keep it all square. The tub was then welded to the axle and A frame drawbar (50 x 30mm RHS).

The tailgate ramp is fabricated from 30 x 30 SHS and 10g 1inch weldmesh. I have used 750Kg rated Indespension units with 13inch wheels and a Bradley cast 50mm hitch. The finish is an agricultural paint sprayed on top of zinc phosphate red oxide primer. The floor is 18mm phenolic coated plywood.

cheers! Was made for a mate who is a cowman/tractor man on my best mate's farm. he wanted it for transporting his honda foreman 500 quad bike between all the different areas of land they farm.

Thought it was for somethin like that Gav . Useful for towing with the said quad as well i would think?

yeah it could be used for towing behind the quad, but the high pressure road tyres would be no good in a field. most ATV's/quads and the associated equipment towed behind them have tyres that run at between 4 and 10psi to avoid damaging the ground.

Hi Cumbria Steve,

the paint is a xylene based paint made by a company called Marathon Coatings. I purchased it from the following http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tractor-Agric...Material_Paint_Varnish_MJ&hash=item2a0ca4e3ea

that link is for the colour I used, but you will be able to see the other options available. They also do all the military colours eg Olive green etc.

I used a xylene based thinner to thin out for spraying and to clean the spray gun. Drying time is very quick 15-20 min and a second coat can be applied.

If you do use this paint be advised it has to be sprayed using an air-fed mask if indoors or spray outside as the fumes are not very nice and irritate the eyes and nose!

Thanks Gav... Sounds exactly what I need except for the air fed mask...only have an Aldi special compressor and the occasional job so would be too difficult and costly to set up...shame...back to the brush it is.
Lovely looking trailer by the way, I used to make trailers when Indespension first came out many moons ago, was a God send, no more Saturdays at the scrappies lying under cars getting springs and axles off.
