A friend asked me if I could make a bayonet retainer for an early 1800's French musket, he even had another barrel I could copy:
I started with some square mild steel bar on the mill and used my Kennametal carbide tipped facing tool to get down to size:
Takes an age maching every face
Slot mill in the Clarkson collet chuck
Machining the radius for the part to sit on the 24mm diameter barrel was awkward, I used a 20mm slot mill then a file, just to radius the edges with a file:
There is still some old braze on the barrel needing cleaned off to get it to sit flush for rebrazing.
And bikes back in after cleaning up
