What sort of thickness do you think a garden firebowl 200mm deep & 900mm wide should be? 6mm?

I have one I made out of 2mm something like seven years ago. It lives in the garden and it's fine.

What kinda size is that? Any holes in the bottom for rain water to drain out etc?

i made one just before xmas i think out of the top of a gas bottle, its about 600 something diameter and around 120mm deep, 3mm steel as per propane bottle and its had a around 40 fires in it since then burning scrap cardboard, paper, broken pallets, charcoal, oak logs and my xmas tree last week...seems to be holding up fine at the moment. if i was making one (which i intend to do towards the end of the summer) from raw stock i would probably use 4-5mm

All the propane cylinders I've seen are between 14" and 16" in diameter so more like 400mm at max.

i cut it into quarters and added sections in to widen it as i had a bit of reound mesh i was going to use a BBQ

i actually have the top of another bottle with the valve guard still on that would make a good fire bowl as it has its own stand already lol, hadnt thought of that until now

Cool cheers. I made some folks a fire bowl with a lip a few years ago, that had to sit in a circular hole in a table. I made that from 5mm & it felt about right, I'll run with 5mm.

I made this lighter weight version from 3mm yesterday to take to fairs as a sample. 900mm wide, 200mm deep.
I didn't cut out the excess overlaps, but I did do that when I made the one with the lip as the overlaps were much bigger due to it being taller. Selfie for the sake of my business FB/Twitter pages.
I've made quite a few bowls in a variety of ways & slicing then shaping is a really nice method on a few levels. I had a couple hours to kill the other day so I made my Mum this little 2 piece bowl & stand for her to put whatever she wants in it. A little thanks for some recent help.

Last one I made. I only use gas bottles though, as there are so many about .The spikey bits needed more shape to them, the next one I shall make a tool or a jig to shape them better.
Not had great luck in selling them though, people will only pay £25, which doesnt really cover the work involved.

Yet I saw one in a posh cotswold shop, with a round grill that swung out of the way, for £270.

Yes, but then you'd be copying someone else's work, which would mean having to undercut it. Better to find something of your own, I hate people doing cheap knock offs of my work, and they do too.

I wasn't suggesting a direct copy, that's part of the problem with the internet now, it can get you a wider audience but there will alway be someone ready to come in and undercut if they can.
I was just highlighting that while there may be price ceiling for a standard item if you can offer a quality product with bespoke options the customers are out there.
I think these days you need lots of fingers in different fires.
I keep thinking about a fire pit with a domed silhouette cut cover around the top that rotates from the effect of the heat around a central tube.
Fire pit material around 3mm with 5mm for the silhouette cut cover.
