Making a belt grinder is on my todo list.

Mine too, but don't hold your breath waiting for the write-up [Well, I've got the rollers and a selection of motors so far....that's a start, I suppose]

yup I have a running machine in the shed I keep meaning to strip down hoping that will prove a good donor for some of the parts - its been there over a year !

Just out of interest..

apart from lining the rollers up, how would you keep the belt from going off one side or the other?
Does one roller have end flanges?
Or is one of them slightly barrel-shaped (like in the old overhead belt-drive workshops)?

The rollers are crowned, in the same manner as the old flat belt pulleys. Any belt will always rise to the high spot, provided the pulleys are aligned & angled correctly.
