finding work abroad

hello people, im looking for a new job and was wondering what my chances were of finding work abroad, im not specific about where just wondering how anyone has gone about it before for the first time?

im apprentice served with 12 years experience now, im mainly a mig welder with quite a high skill in it tho no certificates/codings like asme ix or anything, my stick welding is good but slightly unpractised and my tig is little to none which a lot of people seem to be looking for,

is there much chance of me getting in with a overseas company for the long or short term, id like to be able to use this trade to see a bit of the world which i was always told it was good for when i was going through my education with NVQ and City & Guilds???

not sure how much help it is to you but alot of my cousins are working in oz at the moment, originally from ireland. I know one of my male cousins is working in a merc garage and my other cousin is a hairdresser so im guessing you still need to be a trade to gain eligibility to work there? HTH

thanks working in oz is definately something i fancy a bit later in life,
first i fancy the more obvious holland, germany, belgium or sweden scandinavia way mainly europe before i would try further afield like oz or canada or the us but i will def look at that thanks

There are a lot of jobs going in central and northern Canada. Particularly in the oil fields and mining sectors. Saskatchewan is badly in need of workers. Canada is pretty good on providing 2 year work permits if you can get hired for a job that is in demand and can't be filled locally. Contact some employers and see if they would be willing to take you on.

For any welding certs - or any trades - you'd need a canadian red seal certificate that is recognised in all the provinces. There's a fairly lengthy procedure involved in getting this and can only be done in Canada anyway, and they won't swap out British certs and give you a red seal so lack of certs aren't necessarily a handicap.
