finding a workshop

Not too sure if this is the right part of the forum to put this (apologies in advance if not) I've been trying to find a small workshop to rent in the purton (SN5 area) and its a nightmare i currently rent a garage from the council but no electric so its a complete nightmare if i want to do any work with power (at least 80% of the time) but there seems to be nothing about, tried knocking on farmers doors but nothing going. so to cut a long rant short anywhere know of a small workshop for rent around swindon/purton/RWB/cricklade way?

Have you tried Great Western One owned by Business West? It's in the old railway village by Emlyn Sq.

yup tried them but as i don't want it for business only leisure and want to weld the truck up every so often they wouldn't even give me a price

I wonder what's changed. There used to be an engineering shop in there. Might be a local resident grumble. How much space are you looking for?

I worked from my garage full time for two years, I asked loads of farmers about spaces to rent out and got nowhere.
Then I asked a guy who owns his own farm if he had space to rent . This is almost verbatim how the conversation went.
Farmer 'hmm a sculptor, sounds interesting, come back tomorrow'
Next day ' how much space do you want?'
Two days later he had three sizes of workshop and their rents, and two options for siting it.
I moved in three weeks later, two months rent in advance.
Amazing.
Two weeks later there was a thing called a Credit Crunch in the news.
That messed things up somewhat, but I survived it.

It is probably the cheapest structure you could possibly build, after 6 years it is going to the dogs, but he gave me a break.

You need to find people who own their own space and are capitalists. ( he may also be a bit of a community builder, I mentioned this to him a while back and he pulled a face. Nail on the head?)
Also I was lucky, I met the guy who owns the farm, anybody else there would have said no.
Always speak to the head honcho. Some people surround themselves with flunkies whos job it is is to thwart people like us.

The same week I started discussing another venue with another farmer who owns his own place, this also looked promising.

Both of them were found by cycling around the place.
My landlord did blow my mind. This is why he is succesful, he made a decision on the spot, hedged his bets and did me a mega favour.
Being a succesful farmer he has enemies, personally I cant fault him.

bump,

when i rang they was only interested in businesses and no car work what so ever, i'm not too fussed on size as its only to get away from the missuses, practice welding (as still very much a beginner) and the small projects and to work on the car when it breaks, its a landy so it happens a lot lol, so could get away with the size of large shed as long as i can get the car to the front door.

i've spoken to about half the farmers (can't track the rest down) in the area and they just don't seem interested one had 3 /4 empty buildings (doors open) but just didn't seem interested

I bet Mr empty doors was a tenant farmer.
I spoke to one guy, rents his farm from The Dutchy of Cornwall.
Had a lovely milking parlour empty.
They were not interested, I know how strapped for cash these boys are.he would have benefitted, they would have benefitted.
The roof has since fallen in on the building.
These big estates just dont care.

round our way church of england own a lot of farms if they find out the tennants are making extra money from renting out they increase there rent so its pointless
