Finally finished a 3.4t tandem trailer for my boat

Started building this about 8-12 weeks ago and finally got the safety certificate and registration on it a couple of days ago. It's rated for 3.4 tonne, and has electric over hydraulic breakaway brakes with 12" rotors and 1800 Kg axles. The breakaway unit is a Hydrastar 1600 PSI unit (could have used the 1200PSI one) which connects to a Tekonsha P3 controller in the 4WD. Built it using 4mm x 100mm x 50mm Galv RHS, the main rails have a 19mm solid round bar underneath for the majority of the distance from the axle carrier up to the "V" at the front to add stiffness, using 16 x 7 x 245/75 light truck tyres on Sunrasia rims. Made quite a few modifications along the way so the frame might look a bit different in some of the pics.

I painted the frame with two coat of Cold Galv paint and another 2 coats of epoxy paint to help keep rusting down, still a couple of bits to finish it off, the two small rollers at the winch post to lock in the tow eye and some more keel support rollers for the bottom of the frame. Now I can start work on the boat!!

looks good! electric hydrological brakes is not something that's allowed over here (for trailers less than 40T and way!) but looks a good system.

Really? I'm fairly sure I've seen some Land Rovers able to to tow five tonne trailers with electric actuated brakes. These must surely involve hydraulics to in some way.

its 4 tons and it hydrolic link braked with a air feed from the landy.

Thanks Guys and Gals, over here in Oz they seem to be the preferred method and are cheaper than vacuum brakes, you can use all electric brakes on trailers, but I personally wouldn't like to have them on a boat trailer, the salt water would finish them off real quick, any trailer over 2tonne has to have a breakaway system fitted and brakes on all axles.
