Fibre discs, please school me

I purchased some air tools on eBay a while back and a load of sanding discs were included. Obviously the tools don't have the correct rubber backing discs or hook and loop discs but before I try and purchase some I wanted to check suitability.

In the picture below there is a stack of 150mm yellow hook and loop six hole 3M 255P P80 discs. Am I correct in thinking these are for woodworking only? The same question applies to the 100x16mm P36 and 115x22.2mm P24 aluminium oxide fibre discs.

Can somebody please school me if I can use them on steel? If they are "only good for wood" I'll put them on the Freebies board.

fibre disks ok for steel hook and loop ok for wood and car bodywork etc what you using the flexi disks on an angle grinder and hook and loop on a da sander ???

Sanding disks are good for anything. P80 is my current flavour for plasterboarding.

And bodywork, anything really.

Those silverline ones will go dull very quickly.
They also don't like being kept in a damp environment.
I know, we had some the other day on a site.
Now we keep them in a old biscuit box.

I use them for any surface I am attacking.

But will use hook and loop on the DA for finishing mainly.

Thanks all. I can see I'll use the smaller discs and I'll get a backing disc for them today. If I ever get round to needing the 150mm random orbital sander I'll get some sanding discs at the same time as whatever backing disc I get so I'll pass those on to someone who will get some use from them.

just use the yellow disks for sanding by hand
