Phew
This one has the rumbling gearbox bearing too but it's staying that way until it's really bad!
Got it!
Little Italian bustard!!!
Picked out the remains and run through with my faithful Faithfull ratchet wrench, looks like there's no damage at all to the threads
It's an easy job once the gearbox is out...It didn't really rumble, a bit noisy one day, next day unable to change gear easily. Assumed clutch but was told about the box. Luckily my tame mechanic shares a yard with a gearbox specialist so he dropped the box, other chap repaired and he put it back the next day

Maybe you need to teach the boy child, then he can do yours too!I'm also getting too old and fed up of fixing old cars but it's the youngest boys so I'm trying to keep costs down for him.
I like my reliable old Surf but after getting that bolt out I did this to it.

I never ever learn
Still it's the first time I've been in there for over 10 years
