Ferm turbo mig 150/1 wire spool not working

Hello, I'm new to the forum so wasn't sure where to post, I got given a small portable ferm turbo mig 150/1 to use for lighter jobs, rather than taking my big sip mig welder, when I got it the mig wire was rusty but the feed motor was working with the trigger, I fitted a new reel of 0.8 wire and tried the welder, it worked for a couple of seconds then the motor stopped turning, I have put 12v to the motor and it turns so that's fine, I also checked that when the trigger is pressed it makes a circuit so that is also working, is it common for a relay or something to fail on the circuit board that has the wire speed knob on it? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Do you know if it has a solenoid gas valve? If so, are you getting gas at the tip?

Does it have a permanently live torch? If not can you strike an arc with a bit of wire protruding from the tip?

have you changed the torch liner could be full of rust jamming it

Have you tried the motor without any wire in place?

I will try some of these things tomorrow, but with 12v direct to the motor it turns which leads me to believe that it is a relay or something? However I will push the wire through to see if it arcs when I press the trigger, then I will pull the wire back out and try the motor again. Its not like the motor is trying but can't push the wire through the torch liner though, it does nothing.

sounds like relay to me, but without knowing the machine it could be many things
