All a big stitch up if you ask me. Like white lines on the roads. "Water based" no doubt. Lasts 5 minutes then need redoing.

We have a farm and can't get it. None of the farm supplies shops or hardware shops stock it.
Not available across the border in ROI either.

I bought coal tar creosote recently - local Farmers Merchants had a 25L in stock, but you can also buy it online.
I believe that only businesses & agricultural are supposed to be able to purchase it - not regular householders (no idea if they check though).
I treated the roofing timbers of an outbuilding at my parents place with the stuff recently as a precursor to repairing the roof.... not just rot protection but no insects want to burrow into creosote treated wood.

As NI is part of the UK for postal purposes (as far as I'm aware,) can't you just order some from over here ?
Courier charges for something heavy and a hazardous substance would be crazy!
Yep, they do like to take the pish I'm sure, I just wondered as I've had stuff from NI with the same post charge as anywhere else in the UK,
the Republic on the other hand, postage is bonkers, I used to send occasional small packages to relatives in the South and it cost about 4 times as much just for being over the border.

they generaly rot a few inch above the soil down to about 6 inch below so go down further if you have spare and 4 inch above
