fence panel shortening ..what would you do

putting up some fresh fence panels , just the standard lap panels with 3 vertical bars

i need to shorten a couple

would you trim one end so all the vertical bars spacing is same apart from one end or trim equal amounts of each end , thinking it might be less obvious?

no big deal either way...just wanted others opinions thanks

Trim one end so the rest of it looks right apart from last bit.
On the bonus side , it's only half the work

Assuming these panels aren't as high because the ground is higher at that point, I'd just shorten the bottom edge so that the top rail and mid rail are still in a line. The offset of the shortened panel will be "hidden" by the rise of the ground .

Exactly right - and you have a good chance of damaging something if you try to dismantle the panel so you can put the verticals back in a different position.
Just cut the end off, then carefully strip the end vertical off it and use it to tidy up the cut end of the panel you're keeping.
Personal choice - I normally use screws to put it back together.
