Feather Edge Fencing

I am building a Treebog in my woods (its a dry compost toilet), frame is all done-

I am going to clad it in 150mm Feather Edge fencing with the boards running horizontally.
I know to only put one nail across the width of each board to stop it splitting when it shrinks but do I put the thin edge down and put the nail through the thick edge or vice versa with the thick edge down and the nail through the thin edge?

thin edge up. nail through thick edge just on the overlap

Thin to the top, with three boards overlapping, nail through the covered thin end that way if it does split you wont see it.

If you use dry and seasoned feather edge I find you don't need to pin the lower edge.
