Feast of traditional car hand building skills on display.

The wife was out with her mate for the night & had the rare delight of the exclusive access to the TV remote.
Watched the series on Channel 4 catch up of Jaguar recreating the “missing” Jaguar XKSS cars.
If ever proof were needed that the traditional skills of building a car by hand are not lost the this series is a must see. Absolutely rivetting TV for anybody who admires UK engineering skills at its very best.

I quite like watching Fantomworks, no dramas or BS, but quite a bit of interesting car fixing. Most other auto related tv is tosh.

Love the way they improved on the original door hinges by fitting bronze bushes!!

When at home she tends to get tired about 10 p.m & retires to bed, then I can watch what I want too.

I wish you lived a bit nearer have struggled with getting some work on my old motor up here in the North east.

I've given up with who gets dibs on the remote. I just record what I want to watch and put them on when swmbo has retired to bed. If I'm watching something, swmbo comes in and asks what are WE watching? That's my cue to press record and surrender the remote. Otherwise she will talk and make noise all the way through a program I'm watching. Henpecked? Who Moi!

Was this the programne about jag making the last of a series of lightweight e-types ? The allocated so many chassis numbers to build 25 cars back in the 60's, but only made 20. So jag decided to build the other 5 at a million a pop now.

They weren’t lightweight e types , they were road going versions of the le mans winning d types. In the programme they explain they had made quite a few for racing but still had 15 spares which unfortunately were consumed in a disastrous factory fire. They have decided to remake the 15 destroyed cars. As far as I know the E type was developed solely for road use although some have beern used for racing subsequently.

I did that to a few jobs when I worked in a machine shop in Hednesford some 30 years ago. Local Swiss millionaire had a whole bunch of vintage cars, Frazer Nash, Bugatti, a real Shelby Cobra etc. Best job I did was machining a pair of replica Bugatti from wheel spindles from solid billet steel. A whole month of manual milling and turning.

He had various engine parts, manifolds, brake drums etc, recast in aluminium and I machined them up for him.

His stuff made an interesting distraction in an often tedious and repetitive job.

I work in Cannock. Who is the swiss Billionaire you speak of?. Only one rich round here I know of, was Fred Prichard ( well he was, till he did things with his secretary, and his missus found out)
