this is the chassis for a granualer fertilizer used for potato planting that i have to weld many off this time of year my favourite part is the 60x60x6 box section on the bottom because 8 out of 12 of the welds have to be triple welded and the other 4 need allot of penetration the weld is about 300mm long and it takes on average 5.30 miniutes to do that weld because the gap your filling up is huge. i love welding getting paid is just a bonus

My most enjoyable welding job was the bulkhead for my series 2a. I had the whole thing chemical sripped and de-rusted then built a jig to hold it all while rebuilding it. All butt welded and ground back, It took three weeks start to finish, has no filler, and looks like new, On completion I had it phosphated.

I didn't have it shot blasted or galv'd for fear of distortion. I figure that it lasted 40 years without galv, so it should see me out!

I had it in my living room for a couple of months, while I continued with the rest of the car, I'll see if I can find the pics and post them.

no i prefer hand masks there the propper deal you can do a much longer weld with it and when i wear a headmask to long i get a headache because all the heat in your face.the mask in the background in a face shield not welding mask. i do have a welding mask that cost me £300 but iv only used it three times i use it when we use the 400amp watercooled welder that has water going threw the lance it would be to heavy one handed lol

i started out with a handheld screen that way i got used to doing all my welds with one hand either my left or my right but when i got onto doing tig i found using one hand pretty difficult for holding the torch and feeding the wire so opted for a flip down

as for cost... if the whole job is what you can see in the pictures i would probably work somewhere in the region of 2 - 3 days work. 1st day cutting the steel capping the ends off making the brackets and start tacking up. 2nd day finish tacking, weld up time depending start spraying... could possibly run into day 3 with the painting depending on what was required... labour costs would be around the £1000 mark i would say...

Have you tried the leather "monkey masks" with the fixed lenses ? Very light on the head and neck.
