Convert a coil sprung Land Rover to a leafer and use the coils?

nowt to do with metal work or welding, but my missus cousin has just turned 6 and her father runs a business selling logs and coal, so for her birthday he found a few similar dia logs around the same length and made her a swing/climbing frame from them

I make a point of either locking the carriage and cross slide if I know they are coming over, or locking the shed if they just turn up

What about something like a Toylander project? There's a bit of everything in one of those. Maybe a bit long term for a young nipper who might want instant results, but it would be fun too, after being finished.

for a virtually instant hit with kids what about a pop bottle rocket? 2l pop bottle, tape some fins on the spout end pointing towards the base. fill 1/3rd full of water, cork in the spout, football needle pump end through the cork, then footpump until it takes off. and it DOES take off! a cone on the bottom helps. google will give you some diagrams

like it I was thinking of something ballistic the other day when the kids were asking 500 questions in the car. I shall have a look.

^^^ This. I built a little launch pad to hold the bottle upright, with aluminium angles as arms that hold it down when it's pressurised by a standie-upie bike pump. There's a remote release (string and a clip that holds the arms closed). The first time I tried it in the driveway, it hit the power line and knocked all the insulation off. Easily goes 100m horizontal distance, not sure how high but very. And a little bit dangerous - we had an old bottle explode on the launch pad and the noise was like a shotgun. Kids love it.
