Faster grit for blast cab?

I use recycled glass media in my cabinet -



Plenty of air with a 10mm ID hose and tandem compressor. But it takes AGES to blast parts. It has upgraded nozzle etc and flows well with no blockages so I suspect the media could do with changing. Like 40 mins to do one brake caliper. It's just too slow for what I need to start putting through it for my merc cossie



What is a good mail order faster cutting media than recycled glass please?

Glass works great the first time it’s used, but breaks down very quickly - I wouldn’t use it in a recirculating cabinet.

Aluminium oxide works well, but there’s probably something cheaper.

The problem is, for fast blasting you need a coarse grit - and a coarse grit requires a gun with a larger nozzle and a lot of air, well outside the realms of those sort of cabinets/guns.
Finer grit can be used with less CFM and a smaller gun, but it is far less aggressive.

Only other way would be to go for a pressure pot.

This is the stuff to get. Even the medium will be good and can be re used several times. Dirt cheap - perhaps order a small pallet of the stuff?
They send out single bags as well - £6 per 25kg bag and £10 postage - very reasonable - or get a pallet load.

You can get blast media from JG Burns in Newtownabbey.

I use a pressure pot in my cabinet and with lots of mods it works very well now.
I cut the blast pipe and re-joined it with 3/4 claw fittings and made a adapter that I fitted to the cabinet.
Now it's just a 2min job to use the blast pot with the cabinet or on it's own.

Parm, it needs a tidy and paint but that will have to wait until I'm sure I've finished hacking it about.

In the past I made a hole in the front of the cabinet to let the hose from the pressure pot in.



I welded it up and made an adapter to take claw type 3/4 airline fittings.





The blasting hose I use is old hydraulic hose. It works great but is a bit stiff so I wanted to use something softer for a whip and I had a bit of the original hose laying about so used that inside the cabinet.

Just looking at the date, it's been this way for nearly 6 years. No more mods, I just use it.

Theres always something cheaper, crushed glass is for Aluminium, Iron silicate is sold as one shot disposable for the trade. All you do with ali oxide is add a mug of fresh 60 grit every now and again. It breaks a bit like flint, every fresh edge is razor sharp and as the grit size reduces it gets into those tiny little rust pits and gives you a uniform grey finish. When it's knackered it ends up the dust extractor so you never have to empty the cabinet.
