pity u hadnt coated them with something decent as well thenCheap paint. Used nothing but the cheapest red oxide and top coat why use anything else they are farm gates! Nothing lasts if livestock are near. Just replaced a load of gate posts that have rotted away at the base and they are galvanised.

I use hammerite on the stuff I weld on the farm.
gates, fences, pig pens, chicken coops, you name it, if ive welded it its coated in hammerite. why? cos the farmer had some and it works. some stuff there I welded over a year ago to replace part of a rotten cow enclosure, had rotted through 90% of the material. replaced and covered in hammerite, still there today doing its job
the original hammerite was made by finigans and set like concrete it wouldnt mix with any other thinners that they supplied apart from carbon tetrachloride . the so called new formular will mix with celly thinners . it is a good enamel but used under vehicles its not verry good . i mainly use it on machinery because ive got loads real cheapMight be off key, but have they changed the Hammerite mixture in the last few years? I was never a fan (and Which did a test that agreed) but it is even less effective now. Any comments?
