The wife just cleaned our Smeg cooker & noticed the fan in the fan oven had stopped turning.
Having removed the amending fan it became obvious that the motor had stopped turning due to some plastic spacers on the shaft having split in two & dropped off.
I replaced the spacers with 1/4” dia steel washers & the motor sprang into life once more. Problem is the fan wont kick in from cold (except with persuasion) & Im thinking I need washers with less friction.
Yes I know I could buy a new fan but bring a cheap skate, I subscribe to the Groucho Marx axiom “Its not the principle its the money”.
Any suggestions what type of washer/spacer might be better, bearing in mind some heat comes through from the oven.
