fan cooling

I have an old mighty mig 100xt its about 17years old and shes been faithful to me over the years but last night she thermo tripped so this morning ive bought a 230v axial fan to fit in to keep her cool.

The fan has bugger all wiring info has to female spade poles and an earth screw?

Is it 1 for mains and the other neutral? Should I wire it through the mains switch as in when welder's on so is the fan?

Hi Ryan, welcome to the forum.

Connect the fan before the mains switch, fit a suitably rated in-line fuse in the live line and connect the earth terminal back to where the mains earth is connected.

FYI The neutral is also part of the mains!
Yes you can do as is done on those SIP's fitted with a fan. See pic. The left side of diagram. The device with an M in the middle of the circle (and what looks like a fan blade!) is the fan. Try and point the fan at the transformer and the rectifier if possible.

It depends on the wattage (power) of the fan e.g. 200W fan = 1Amp fuse.
