So had good fortune,one of the regiment’s members produced this full size drawing.
Thanks to all who suggested this and other ideas on my previous post.

Consider stainless steel for such an important piece.
Polished it will look like chrome for a lifetime.

I’m using 8mm corten.

Going for the opposite look, I can understand that.

It should patina all even in a short time outside.

One problem with corten, it "dribbles" rust down onto whatever support, concrete especially looks bad.

I have put a simple disc at the bottom of the steel post, acting as a drip edge larger than the concrete post/column
so no rust on the concrete.

That's nicely drawn but how are you going to get from that to cut steel?

I’ll cut out the shape,then transfer the outline with chalk,just follow it with the torch.
Annoyingly ill then have to paint it .

When you indicated "Corten" I thought you were going to leave it "natural".

That was the original plan,but someone in the regiment insisted a black coating.
