Facebook problem.

Hi chaps. I’ve got a Facebook page where people can advertise their events. It’s worked fine for years. Then I started getting random posts of complete irrelevance like snakes and animals. Then it started to get porn videos.
I reverted to approving any posts before they were published.
I now have dozens of applications each day from random names and if I block then, the name changes slightly and they reapply.
I think I’m going to have to close down the Page as I don’t know how to contact Facebook to see if they can help.
Why do people spoil things for others.
Anyone got any ideas as to a solution.please.

Far right top of the page there should be a profile photo, click on that and at the bottom should be a sign out. It might be able to pause the group in the admin settings and this will help stop them coming in also, try setting it to hidden for a bit and that will also help

Fed up with the junk I have everything turned off and it still gets in

I have no issues with my pages, even though fully public. I have set group relevant questions that have to be answered before approval, weeds out those with no idea what the group is about. I also check profile pages for relevant posts. Anything with hundreds of group memberships is automatically suspect.

Just set it up as a private group instead of a public group.The same thing was happening to a load of groups I'm in, all set to private now

More admins? I have four on my group.

Set entry questions, multiple choice will do with three or more nonsense options and one correct.
eg:

What is a Bleed resistor?

1) A device used in blood tests.
2) An elastic cuff.
3) A component used to discharge a capacitor.
4) A diode.

Which is a sledgehammer to crack a nut. I have resisted that option strongly, using the other screening facilities.

I do think faceache ruined a lot of forums

Don't use it much about once a month, got to work out how to clear the small amount on there

I'm using areas of Facebook I've not had an interest in before, several groups are private - I don't mind joining those as they are for topics I'd rather keep out of sight of the general public (eg I have a valuable / fun / exciting item I'm looking to sell. I really don't want to advertise to general FB users what it is or where I keep it ... )

Maybe set your group to Private and see if it deters your troublemakers ?

The trouble is, these are automated posts. One earlier had a name of 96 numbers. No one would use that as their name.

I think there's a option to block all accounts by one person?

Which is detected by if they use the same phone nunber/email address

May help a bit!

That's OK in certain circumstances, but as a mate found out recently, keep in mind that once the group is private, there's no way to turn it back to a public one if you want to.

It has, but it's because Facebook makes it so easy to join groups and post photos - most forums are only just catching up with easy ways to add photos in to a post. And if you're on Facebook for other reasons, and find a group that sounds interesting, it's really easy to just click "Join Group" whereas joining yet another forum means filling in yet another form and having yet another username and password and remembering to check yet another site to see if anything has changed. FB, unfortunately, makes all of that really easy.

The down side, of course, is that most of the other FB users are idiots, spammers or worse, and you have no control of what order FB shows you stuff in, so for something like a build thread, it's totally useless. How many times are you absolutely certain that you've seen a post and now can't find it, can't remember what group it's in (because as soon as someone falls foul of a group rule, they run off and set up their own splinter group, so you have to join them all just in case you miss something) ? How many times has FB shown you an event when it's too late to go to it?

FB is great at some stuff, and rubbish at others.

No idea as iv never had nor used it.

When I'm with mates or my ex it just looks like regurgitated rubbish with as you say idiots ruining it for everyone else
