F1 style jacks/lifts.?

Hi,

I've gone and splashed out on a new toy, it's a Honda S2000.
My trolley jack doesn't go under the spoiler so's I was thinking of a F1 style lift. Anybody done one.? pics.?
Anybody seen a really low trolley jack.?
Yes, I can lift on the body, but it takes forever waiting for full suspension extension.!
I was also wondering about making a lift jack which could be dismantled to carry in the boot.?

Run it up onto two pieces of 3x2 then put the jack under.

I just modded the handle so you could pick it up and put it down with out smacking your knuckles

I've had low cars over the years, and the simplest answer is usually as above - put two planks of wood on the ground, drive onto them, then jack as normal.

Quite often the factory scissor jacks go under easily too as the jacking points are often higher up than the bottom of the plastic sill covers which prevent most trolley jacks from going under.

Now I've got the opposite problem - my trolley jack's almost at full extension before it gets to the jacking points on my Mitsubishi Pajero

Still won't lift the tyres off the floor

The factory bottle jack does the job nicely though, so I might just get another bottle jack in case that gives up. Mind you, other than removing a wheel to get to the brakes, there's not usually much need to jack it - I can slide underneath without doing so.

Got an S2000 myself and had a similar problem although I only need about 10mm clearance for my Clarke trolley jack so usually just use the cars jack for first 10-15mm.. Its a pain and i did consider a low slung jack but hardly worth it for the amount of use it'll get.. The S runs like a swiss watch.. Enjoy it...

FWIW a few more examples of F1 style quick lift jacks... google shopping The big uns (that stand a chance of lifting a light saloon/coupe) are over a metre long...

Don't work any better than a couple of bits of wood but if you want to make something posh there's always the low access ramps that the rally boys use. 'Kin expensive to buy but simple to make. There's a thread about making 'em somewhere on the forum, cross referencing a search with either my name or Davenport should make it easier to find

The Arcan one? Bought/use one myself, great jack but quite heavy and might be overkill for OP. Its the steel bodied(3t) one ive got, afaik they did an aluminium one at one point.

Cant remember the min saddle height atm though.

You could always fit integral air jacks to the car, like the Touring Cars have

Think how often you're going to need to jack the car. If it's a nice reliable Honda, then probably not that often. Is it worth spending a lot of money on a jack you'll rarely use? Or can you find a couple of planks lying about? If not planks, surely you've got something you can drive it onto - old Haynes Manuals?

OK I'll own up to taking the wheels off and jetwashing them inside when cleaning the car.
Sad isn't it, a bit of OCD from my racing days.

Thanks guys, I will get my Solidworks fired up and do some inventing.
Maybe something like a horizontal bottle jack pushing up a sort of lift jack thing.

I used to do that with the wheels on my old Mini, god knows why as they were pitted to hell anyway. I've become lazy since then.
