F/l tines & spec

im making a lifting frame to accept telehandler fork lift tines,I'd like it to be universal for all makes,anyone know the span across the tines & the smallest tine width in use,it will be specifically agricultural models only.
I've looked via Google to no avail.all help appreciated.

Aren't agri fork lift tines adjustable width? On the ones I've used the L shape tines are just connected to the connecting pin at the top, but can be pushed out or in by maybe 300mm as they are a clearance fit on the pins. The bend in the tines just rests on a backing plate, but isn't attached. The pic from google below shows them, but they have stopper blocks on the pins to prevent too much lateral movement.

Yes I know they're adjustable,I need to know the max span ,so I can accommodate all likely m/c

On the 2 ton forklift in the yard the tines are 5" wide and they open up to 3`6" outside to outside, they will also close up so they are touching.



On the telehandler the tines are 4" wide and 3" wide, the carriage opens up to 4` outside to outside and they also close up untill they touch.

Just make them the size of a good pallet, then it's impossible to go wrong.

now found a spec chart & it lists 4"x1.5" as a max for class 2,are all agricultural carriages 2?

defantly not. all depends on the machene and how much go its got, think there class2 upto about 2.5T but there a lot of telehandlers about now that are 4+ ton lift
every carrage i've mat has had adjustable tines on it, most go from 1200mm 4 ft ish outside to outside to nearly touching, biggest pita whith a large machene is the tines are often to wide to fit in lifting channels and tight on the depth.

How many forklifts are there that won't fit into a pallet? I've yet to see one.
Hence, my suggestion of making it that size...

the thing is i want to buy a length of box thats big enough,as a sleeve,not waste money on one thats too big just cos it matches a hole in a pallet.

Think its going to be a bit impossible as the current batch go from a lift capacity of under 1 ton up to 9 tons i think for agri machines with 4-6 tons being common now id go for a big sleeve with screws to tighten up with

I think that realistically if you want to be able to use a big machine it's going to have to be pretty big.
I use a 3t telehander and without measuring there's probably only about two inches of clearence in a typical pallet.
Bear in mind that if you make it too tight then have to pick it up on an uneven surface it's going to be a struggle, sometimes that two ish inches isn't really enough and you put one tine in the pallet with the other trying to go underneath the bar or into whatever's on the pallet.
