Eye protection for grinding

What eye protection does everybody use when cutting or grinding steel using an angle grinder?? After spending a few hours in the hospital today to have a small piece of steel removed from my eye I think I need to find something better than what I am using (a pair of safety glasses and my welding mask on grinding mode). I have a pair of cheap goggles which seem to do the trick but they are very uncomfortable and steam up all the time.

Uvex silicone goggles, visor and P2 mask for the dust and fumes, i have a full face resporator so i wear that, kills 2 birds with 1 stone

Only do my grinding of things in back garden so dont use a mask... and my goggles are the cheap ones from toolstation never had a problem with them.

This sounds terribly familiar! I ended up in eye casualty one afternoon recently too (got me out of a graveyard shift at the library) after I switched to glasses when my uvex goggles kept steaming up due to badly fitting dust mask around the nose area and a freezing cold garage!

A kindly scottish lady had to dig quite a spear of rusty steel out from the edge of my iris. I need to be more safety conscious but I have never been very good at spotting danger.

Do a few cuts and a bit of weld prep wearing a mask outside and youll get a shock at the colour of the mask, once your done, the UVEX goggles are comfey to wear for long periods

I've tried a few half face respirators and the only one so far that does not steam up my goggles or safety glasses is the Scott Profile 2, seems to be a really good fit.

Is there any eye protection for those of us who wear glasses please, any recomendations, using my £12 esab welding helmet at the moment

Yes, you can get prescription goggles and you can also get inserts for full face masks, guys at work have them for the BA sets

After spending many torturous hours in a&e units all over the world (and having been wearing prescription safety glasses at the time) I only do any grinding now using both script safety specs and clear visor together.

The first will go over large framed prescription glasses, the latter, will go over medium ones.
They are both comfortable, but especially the 'Ultrasonic' ones. Happily wear them for long periods.

Expensive compared to some, but worth every penny.

I favour these over safety glasses, especially when grinding into a corner.
