Eye pain on blinking.

Having been hospital only to be sent back to doctors...who sent me to hospital in the first place their conclusions are "they don't know"

I have had a pain in my left eye socket area on and off for some 2 years. That seems to have cleared up as I have had no issues in the last 5 months BUT 6 days ago I had , what I feel is the same pain but this time in or around my right eye socket.

This pain is there all the time but acute everytime i blink but Not if I close my eyes. It feels as if the pain is in the very corner of my eye, but more in the eyelid.

It is painful if I scrunch my eyes up, blink or touch the eye socket skin covering in the outer corner. Closing my eyes does not produce pain......

Its not welding related with recent activity as I have not welded for 3 months now. Could be historic.

Anyone had anything similar??

I had a collection of small blisters along the inside lip of my left eyelid that were causing irritation. Additionally a large corneal abrasion below my left pupil.

Took quite a few trips to A&E before it was spotted, wasn't welding related, my eyes open somewhat while I sleep and my pillow was the culprit.

I have sodium hyaluronate eye drops now to add moisture to my eyes and I've been fine since. Had to get the optometrists at the hospital to write to my GP to put on prescription...

Edit: Dust and dry/dehumidified environments caused some grief, ie: working in server rooms, etc...

You should see an optician, they will do a proper assessment.

As above.My wifes an optician, if they find anything wrong they will refer you to an eye specialist at the hospital.

Totally agree with the above, this is not the place for a diagnosis. I had something similar to you several years ago and it was a piece of metal swarf embedded in my eye lid which had grown over it, couple of x rays and a nick with a knife sorted it out and they removed it within a minute, took them longer to do the X ray than it did to actually remove it.

You only get one shot at it with eyesight.

In this part of Kent you used to be able to walk in to the Maidstone Ophthalmic Hospital and get immediate expert attention but now, it's take your chance in A&E in the hope of eventual reference to a specialist.
It's called progress.

Unless its to remove something physical from a eye i would definitely see a decent independent optician for advise. They have more training and kit than a A & E doctor when it come to eyes.

Have heard of ingrowing eyelash (eyebrow hair?) causing similar.
I do get some heading that way! as in out of the corner of my eye I see it but as I ware glasses makes it difficult to see it in mirror as glasses get in the way!
Have taken a pic with camera phone before now to then load on laptop to "see" what's going on. Can zoom in quite a bit. You might want to get other half to take pic as trying to operate a touch screen "take pic" button is a pain.

ps or even a web cam could be used with good lighting. At least you know where to look.

Our doctor would send you to an optician, who can refer you to hospital if needed, that's what happened when mrs Robo had cataracts.

I have several problems with my eyes - funnily enough my sight is OK. Years ago went to the doctors and they said nothing was wrong. It wasn't until I went to the opticians that it was picked up properly - well one of the problems anyway.

The amount of appointments I have had at the hospital eye specialists over the years for my eys is silly. Anyway if one of the problems occurs I am just supposed to ring up the hospital and go in to see the specialist straight away - usually a very long wait happens when I get in. PITA.

I am not asking for a diagnosis to be fair just if anyone has had something that sounds similar...having been to opticians who reffered me to doctor who sent me to minor injuries clinic ....who sent me back to the Doctors. Who actually said "I don't know"

I am having a blood test next week but rest assured I will be following up anything and everything I get suggested.

The fact I have had (what I consider) the same thing numerous times over the last 2 years but in my left eye has confused me.

I have recently had my eyes photographed as part of the diabetes program and they found nothing major and booked me in again for next year.

So I am not wanting a forum diagnosis but just some suggestions from anyone having the same symptoms in the past.

Just spoke to my mother and she had iritis.

Seems like it can be genetic and my diabetes won't help the immune system apparently.

Iritis is the inflammation of the iris, the coloured portion of the eye. It has been known cause extreme pain, light sensitivity and sight loss, which is often the result of a disease in another part of the body. Most cases of iritisare recurring, in what are small attacks.

I don't have all the symtoms but many of them and it's been one eye at time......off to get a refferal letter in the morning I think.
