Sometimes after long welding or cutting I get blurry or patches in my vision.
Dose anyone know the real long term impact of the arc on the eyes?
I have a decent speedglass mask and a kemppi beta mask and use shade 12 to 13.
Just getting curios. I guess bad vision is a given with this welding game.

UV from the arc is blocked totally by the lens! That is what damages your eyes. Blurry and patches happen due to brightness - same as when you get dazzled by an oncoming car.
You could try making your lens go darker.
Just remember even if the auto darkening lens batteries fail and the lens stays clear the UV will still be blocked by the filter.

i had a eye checkup yesterday and mine are fine after 6 or 7yr of everyday welding. i only use speedglas masks. having the lens to dark i think can strain your eyes so maybe lighten it a bit

going to add to the chorus saying "i think you should probably schedule an eye check up" as i haven't experienced that after welding - even accidentally flashing myself on grind mode you're still UV protected.

shade 12/13 sounds very dark to me, i'm normally at 9, but dark vision degrades with age so i'm guessing you're either young (all the more reason to look after your eyes and keep on top of checkups) or part-owl, in which case a vet maybe?

Your eyes will recover from arc-eye after a short period, it's your fault if you get it more than 2 or 3 times, anyone whos had it will learn not to, generally eye problems are caused by old age or other health problems, go for an eye test asap and see the Quack if required...

sounds like hes a new guy and its sure yet how to set the lens for various situations.

Are you welding inside? Is the light bouncing of the walls/ceiling into the back of your helmet causing your eyes to strain.
