extraction ideas

As i am thinking of renting a unit pretty soon,its obvious im going to need some sort of extraction,and was just wondering if anyone had made there own and how,as im on a tight budget.

what sort of extracta. u could get a large blower fan of a warmair central heating unit

ford escort heater blower fan, build a plywood box round it with some ducting and a lenghth of old hoover hose, 3 fan speed settings, works a treat and sits up in the corner of the workshop on shelf brackets, exhaust is a 2ft lenghth of drain pipe going from plywood box through the garage wall.

i needed this as my neighbour is hall bent on getting a flash, so i now weld with the doors shut.

i run it from the guts of a battery charger.

The tubing used on tumble driers is pretty good and cheap if you need to run the ducting a long distance.

I'm currently using a couple of PC fans in a wooden frame mounted in the shed wall. I've no actual idea about what flow rates would be sensible, presumably it would need to be at least the same as the gas flowrate on the welder?

It's also possible to have too much and upset your welding though?

can i steal this idea tony? this thread has got me redesigning my set-up to have 2 hoses connected to the extractor, one for the bench and one movable for when im building chassis etc on the floor....

Go for it
It goes by ducting or flexible ducting if you cant find tumble drier tube.

if its possible to do any long runs in solid pipe and then use flexi that will give you a better suck rate

ive still got 2 lengths of drain pipe so i think it will be some gaffer tape and ducting then its down to routing the floor nozzle so it can be placed where ever i need it.

as mk says long runs need a smooth bore inside otherwise it bounces around in consetina pipe and reduces the flow volume
