extra long 6mm drill bit

need a 6mm drill bit thats min 200mm long.
need to drill through bolt that holds handlebars on bikes so i can run brake cables through frames to tidy them up on bikes im building.

tried tracy tools and e-bay but no joy anyone know anywhere?

last long drill i got brazed onto rod by guy at old place i worked.
and ive got no brazing gear.

Can you get one half as long and go from both ends ? One here from Orbital you could cut down and use.

Your local tool shop should have them but you need to ask for Long series drills

Dormer and handreiter do reasonably priced long series and super long series. Excellent quality. we use use some 4.5 HSCO ones to do some 230mm on 316 in the CNCs and they drill a lovely straight hole.

We have ultra long drill bits at work made by Presto about 8" long

I've 6,8, and 10mm long series drill bits by Presto. Cost around 25-35quid each

Or you could make a spade drill or D bit. As used for driling gun barrels.

I'm probably missing something but aren't bicycle stem bolts typically about M8 size (albeit with various typically fine thread pitches)? If the 6mm hole is perfectly concentric that'd leave less than 1mm wall thickness in the threaded region of the stem bolt

I thought that but, reckoned I was reading it incorrectly

I made on for something I couldn't access easily, I tigged a drill to the end of an old stud, worked a treat. If you need to buy one a 200mm one is about a tenner[I bought one by mistake last year] off the shelf in drill service.

At least i'm not alone. Thinking about it we've probably been spoilt with high end kit got a vague recollection that some kids bikes/clunkers use a 13mm or 1/2" hex head bolt rather than the 6mm allen key headed ally bolt i'm used to so probably larger dia and i'm bring up pointless details?

hes modding the bolts/angle bit thats threaded to bigger size.
migs knacked at mo was worried the arc welder ight be to fiece and soften bit t much.

The shank on a drill bit is usually soft so should not be a problem.

I have made quite a few drill extensions for reaching past obstructions. Most common is for drilling out broken cylinder studs on motorcycles. I take some mild steel stock and drill a hole in the end then grind three flats on the drill shank, coat with threadlock, stick the shank in the hole in the end of the rod I drilled then crimp it slightly in my vice over the three flats. Works great but doesn't extend the effective length, just the reach.

drilled bolts with normal bit first then long bit worked treat but sis as nicked bike of him.
