That would be when they decided to teach everyone IT - using Word and Excel is NOT computing! Fortunately they have finally realised that and are starting to use the Raspberry Pi and teach programming.

When I did GCSEs a few years ago they did computing but the only teacher who knew her stuff left right a the start of the year so they changed everyone over to IT so they could learn all the different Powerpoint transitions. Apparently in the final exam at the end of the course you're allowed, if not encouraged, to google it if you don't know. Despite that I don't think there was a single A.

It's not really a cheat as such...

if you advertise/sell something and to everyone else on the planet a gigabyte is 1024 megabytes but you decide to use 1000 instead... then to me that's cheating/conning/whatever

The Commodore Amiga was so far ahead of it's time. It outperformed later Pentiums with ease. A company bought the rights to it and were going to launch a system that would run Amiga OS and Windows side by side. Bill Gates was so worried he bought the company and killed the project.
I still use an Amiga for data recovery on PC hard drives - it sees everything!

I put RetroPie on the Pi Zero and had a little play, really basic games (Think Ms Pacman, Breakout, DigDug, Asteroids, etc) work great but Diddy Kong Racing was a bit much for it and I couldn't get it to open Space Invaders. BTW a PS3 controller is absolutely horrible for emulating older things.

Turrican 2 used be one I played on the C64, its still playable now, nice and simple, the only problem with it was waiting half an hour for it to load from the datasette before you could play it.

on another note i prefer the playstation joypad but i also have a usb version for the pc

ive played on some games using the pc joypad with no trouble but others not so good

on a quick look up retroarch might be of interest

im not the one to actually use the old joypads of retro years

I've a long history with Acorn products, My main computer for many years was an Acorn Electron, then I got a Archimedes A310 and then a Risc Pc. I've still got all those machines plus various Beebs and Masters. Both my Electron & Risc Pc are still plugged in ready to go.

I was lucky in that I was taught how to use computers rather than how to use Windows, but people I know who are few years younger that are completely out of their depth as soon as you give them a machine that isn't running Windows.

I run my business on the RPC platform. I only use BillyGoatWare when I have to. My Caller ID network system seems to be unavailable on anything other than RISC OS.

I was also Gloucestershire's main Acorn Dealer for a few years. I seem to remember a turnover of a quarter of a million one year, thanks to my education customers. Those were the days!

BBC model Bs are still used in many labs - still one of the best ADCs around!
I once ran my cooker on one. We had an electronic control Belling that was way ahead of it's time. The control box packed up and I was far too broke to get a new cooker so I rigged up the BBC on the draining board to control the oven. The halogen hob worked with normal knobs.
It worked fine for a while - although the fan needed a flick with a stick to come on! When it stopped working I used to manually switch on by moving a relay - until one day I slipped! There was an almighty flash and bits of solder all over the kitchen - never worked again!
