exterior skin for small shed

looking for the cheapest way to skin a 4ftx4ft shed, would need 5 sheets of 8x4 to skin it without joins on the walls and will be able to cut the bits for the apex roof from one sheet leaving very little waste at the end.

was thinking of ply or OSB but looking for any cheaper alternatives

when you say skin it is it already built with walls and its an extra layer

no, its a steel frame that needs a skin. the only requirement is for it to be waterproof, i dont need it insulated as its just storage but will be keeping power toold and hand tools in there along with steel stock so want to keep the risk of rust as low as possible

Cheapest way is with OSb and a membrane but it wont be secure enough.. I can get a Navara full of 12mm for 50 quid. 20 inches x 48 inches. But time you have messed abut and fitted it you will be better with 18mm full boards I guess..

i have no problem getting it in 4x8 sheets which is the easiest way for me to fit it, just going to attach it on so it hangs over then use the router and a trimming cutter to tidy it up. same for the roof and will probably felt it too.

as for security, im not hugely bothered about it being really secure as ive added certain bits of 'security to my garden after being broken into before, whoever wants to get in will have to make a lot of noise to do so and will definitely cut themselves badly if they try to get over the fence rather than through it. also have floodlights and cctv on PIR that trigger when there is any movement anywhere in the garden and a dog that barks when he thinks something is up.

plus there isnt going to be a massive value of things stored in there either and its all insured

Creosoted 12mm shuttering ply and roofing felt? A pre-fab garden store would work out cheaper, did for me when I wanted to enclose my compressor Argos do a 6x4 for £110 here.

No, gazebo is up now, little bit disapointed as its shorter than advertised but i have bastardised it a bit now so it cant go back, no problem though as i can just mount it on something so it clears my patio doors. its in its temporary position at the moment as im boiling after putting it up (supposed to be hammering down today but its blazing sunshine and it gets a bit warm inside this gazebo with no wind), not screwed down yet, and guy lines are just tied onto some gas bottles for the moment too, its a bit flimsy now its up but it should do for what i want. its got a fair bit of wind protection from the house next door and the fence along side it and when im dont it will be screwed down on all 4 legs, all joints taped up, guy lines running to brackets on concrete walls etc...i was going to put a mig tack on all of the joints but i think thats a bit over the top and makes it a pain to take down when i move...if it lasts until summer i will have had my use out of it and dont care if it falls apart then

this shed is purely for dry storage. Will still be working under the gazebo as at most I only have space for a 6x4 shed which just is t big enough to do anything once there is a bench and some shelves in there so just going to put shelves in. Only have a 4x4 concrete base so thought of making something to fit that, using the door off my current shed with its hinges etc

i probably could but as im only going to be here another few months i dont want to spend loads of time cutting and attaching pallet wood after having to strip the pallets down etc.

new idea has just greeted me whilst putting the gazebo up though...i have space on the patio next to the gazebo for a 3'x5' footprint shed and there is already a sliod patio base

Waterproof..osb..ply..not in the same sentence!

OSB will literally fall apart, even after you treat it or cover it with felt.

You're better off with 22mm T&G rough sawn cladding, buy it in 4.8mtr lengths, then cuprinol the shiznit out of it.

Don't get anything planed, as it won't soak up the stain, paint or bitumen..

i probably could but as im only going to be here another few months i dont want to spend loads of time sourcing and modifying things to make a base then have to puild a cheap shed that doesnt line up with anything when i could just weld a frame up in an hour or 2 and then screw some wood on from the inside. i dont need a lot of space as long as i have a decent amount of good strong shelves as nearly all of the things i want to store are small hand tools, my cement mixer and all that gear will still live under the sheet its under now as its not doing any harm being there

Shame as I have a 6 x 3 metre one here with sides. It's going to need a new home now.....

Can't get them through the door and the only ones I have access to are used for sulphuric acid contaminated water
