Extension Cables

Just a passing thought, rather than having multiple arc/return leads etc lying around is it feasable to just make up a couple of extension leads using dinse plugs/sockets or is this a no no?

Absolutely fine. If you're thinking of a very long length you may want to go for the next size of wire.

Thanks Archie, just seems to me a couple of leads made up like that could be usefull for when I need the extra length

Yes, just put a dinse on each end.

If you go for the next size up, put the smaller csa cable on the end not attached.
Probably obvious to do that mind.

Is there a limit on the length of leads you can use on a arc welder/genny welder ???

Yes, depending on both load and the CSA of the cable you are using.

The genny welder i have is a 240amp and it has 10m leads but because of the size and weight of it, sometimes its easier to leave it in the van or on the ground and run leads to the welding site so the longest extension leads I would need would be in or around 40m giving a total length of 50 meters.

40m of leads will be bloody heavy too....

Thats why i'm making them extension leads so I dont need to haul them everywhere I go.
