Exporting a motorcycle...

Could anyone help with this query from a friend of mine please? 'Bike is currently in the UK and needs to be registered in Cyprus...

I currently own a 2001 Kawasaki VN1500 Drifter, that I am looking to take to Cyprus with me.
I am being told that without a “Euro Approval Number on the V5, I will not be able to register the bike in Cyprus.

Unfortunately there is no certificate of conformity available for your machine, as it was manufactured before these were introduced.

Did Kawasaki sell that model in Cyprus, if so you should be able to export it as there wasn't a "Euro Approval Number" then....

You can still import vintage/classic vehicle and get them registered here.

In Cyprus you probably need to grease a palm or two......

A bit like the seat belt law vehicles built before 1963 (?) don't require them to be fitted...

if it's anything like Greece forget doing it legaly.........it's really not worth it.......
cars n bikes are anything upto 3-400% or more money in value...thats why they make it hard to import....
quite a lot run on foreign plates inc UK........but if u get stopped by an A hole copper it can/will be conviscated and ur personal fine is €1000.......or more......
plus u'll need full UK insurance and MOT....just in case ur stopped....
or u could just be on holiday but be ready to get it on a ferry.....nod nod.....
u really have to know somebody in the reg dept to get arround the approval laws....
a mate used to import BMW m/cycles here and as a back hander it was €500 per machine....n he was Greek........
plus even if the machine is legal there is still import duty to pay even if the bike is from within the EU.....not sure in Cyprus but bet it's the same.....
so much for free trade.......
best to buy one there and take pain killers for ur wallet.....lol....
